playing the dozens

Posted by bryanz on Mon Oct 27 2008 09:52 (Link)
there's a "your momma's so fat" battle with presidential candidates as the subject on twitter. a few choice quotes:
Yo mama so fat, she authorized a $700 billion bailout of Dairy Queen.
Yo mama so fat, she thinks the G8 is a Value Meal.
Your mama so fat, when they asked which menus she reads, she said "You know, all of 'em."
You moms so fat ACORN registered her to vote *three* times.

jet engine test videos

Posted by bryanz on Tue Oct 21 2008 12:53 (Link)
i like the test where they explosively remove a blade from the engine. it's kind of reassuring to know that next time i'm flying i don't have to worry too much about a turbofan blade slicing through the cabin if the engine goes. they also throw a bird in and flood an engine with water.

boston vernacular

Posted by bryanz on Thu Oct 16 2008 22:23 (Link)
in california the phrase "yeah right" is used to question the legitimacy of something. for example:
mckenzie: "level 5 vegans don't eat anything that casts a shadow."
dylan: "yeah right. you're full of it."

i found out in boston that "yeah right" is used to agree with something. for example:
larry: "i love the texas bbq ribs and cornbread at Red Bones."
frank: "yeah, right? they're wicked good."

yes, i heard "wicked" used. i was just as surprised as when i heard "eh?" used in canada. i thought both catch phrases had been used so often to make fun of the locals that they would have stopped using them. way to power through guys.

thank you google for making the internet a safer place. their new feature asks if you're really sure you want to send that drunken email at 2am.

tommy

Posted by bryanz on Fri Oct 03 2008 15:39 (Link)
"pinball, it's a fever!"

i thought Tommy was one of those cultural literacy movies that everyone should watch, until i saw it. same goes for The Wall. which brings me a to a bigger question, did anything worthwhile happen in the 70's?
