yesterday was not a good day

Posted by bryanz on Fri Nov 16 2007 07:02 (Link)
it started out with getting shat on by a bird (it was warm and slimy and on my hand), then i had to work through lunch, then everyone but myself and a coworker went on a team building exercise thing from noon to 5:00 while we stayed behind and dealt with several emergencies that came up, then i had to work an hour and a half late which also meant that i missed the post team building free beer and food, and my commute home took an hour instead of 30 minutes.

THEEEN i heard a friend of mine got mugged (luckily no physical violence and the cops got the guy), and another friend might have rabies. there was a serious disturbance in the force yesterday.

the needle tears a hole

i learned how to properly adjust a turntable arm counterweight and anti-skating weight today. i also bore witness to the unbridled arrogance of the audiophile realm. most turntables for the past 25 years have features like a button for selectable speeds (45 vs 33 rpm), a button to drop the arm on the record gently, and pre-balancing so you don't have to futz with any weights. but NOOOOO, not when you're dealing with audiophile products. you want to play a record? figure out how to balance the arm first. you want to drop the arm? pull the lever. (pronounced leee-ver). you want to play a record at 33 rpm? YOU PULL THE BELT OFF THE SMALL MOTOR PULLEY AND PUT IT ON THE LARGE PULLEY. it's like they take pride in making you feel lazy and stupid because of your modern ways. what are these compact discs you speak of? they use computer chips to make sound? oh, how quaint.
